COLUMBIAN & FOUNDERS' AWARD WINNERS

Knights of Columbus Council 9625 is a winner of the Columbian and Founders' awards for the 2012-2013 fraternal year.  The Columbian Award is presented for excellence in sponsoring programs that serve the Church, community, families, pro-life and youth - as well as council members.  The Founder's Award is given for outstanding promotion of the organization's fraternal insurance program.

The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic lay organization.  It provides members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, familes, and young people.  With more than 1.8 million members in more than 14,000 councils around the world, the Knigts of Columbus anually donated over $167 million and 70 million hours of service to charitable causes.

Receiving this award is quite an honor for our Council.  We are very pleased with this accomplishment as it shows our Council's dedication to the Order.

Annual Family Pasta Dinner & Awards Night - 8/19/13

[August 20,2013]

Thank you to all members and family who were able to attend the annual Pasta Dinner/Awards event last night. Many cudo’s to John Callahan and John Wilson for a wonderful meal, and to Deaton Ellis for his two selections of home brew!

We were able to formally recognize and thank Glenn Korando for his tireless term as Grand Knight, and we should also recognize the support from Glenn’s wife, Patti and his boys, Hunter and Kyle, since the hours Glenn spent for the benefit of our council were “borrowed” from his family time. Thank you Korando’s!

For those of you unable to attend, it was Glenn’s presentation to Phil Uro of our annual “Knight of the Year” award that was the highlight of the evening. Glenn was able to conceal the selection of the recipient of this prestigious award until the presentation and it was wonderful that Phil’s wife Bonnie, daughters Alyssa and Charity were all in attendance! Phil’s work with the council in a short 9 months since his first degree is an inspiration to each of us. Congratulations and thank you, Phil!

Thanks to every member who has attended a meeting, worked a project, or said a prayer for the Harvester Knights of Columbus over the past year. We are looking forward to the next year and hope to see each and every member often!

Thanks,

John Breneman, GK

Harvester Council Places 3rd in MO. State Softball Tournament

On June 29, 2013 the MO. State Knights of Columbus tournament was held in Columbia, Mo. The Harvester Council entered the Fraternal Division of the tournament and placed 3rd out of 11 teams. The council was represented by Todd Lockhart, Todd Garner, Matt Gavura, Sean Breneman, Greg Allman, Kyle Breneman, Jimmy Green, Kris Barnes, Corey Snow, Jacob Russell, Steve Lupo and Bryan Breneman.

The team opened up with a heartbreaking 11-10 loss against a very good St. Thomas (south of Jefferson City) team then proceeded to win 4 straight games to reach the semi-final game against St. Thomas for a second chance at them. That game (#6 for the Harvester team) was even more exciting with St. Thomas advancing 19-18.

Harvester has participated in the MO. State Tournament 18 of the last 19 years. The Council was urged to begin play in 1995 by PGK Tom Shadrach and has had as many as 3 teams playing in prior years. Harvester urged the state council to add the fraternal division to the established “Open” and “Over 35” division’s years ago, and with the help of member Jim Radi the officers installed this newest division. One of the Harvester teams won the fraternal tournament in its 3rd year. This year’s Harvester team is said to be one of the best performing Harvester teams to date.

Congratulations to the entire team and special recognition to Greg Allman who batted 18 for 20 during the day.
